The Bell is a fine, rambling, 17th century coaching inn on the site of a hospice owned by the Cistercian monks of Beaulieu Abbey in Hampshire. The Bell boasts a resident ghost, a monk-like apparition who has been regularly sighted by guests in the hotel. Also admire the murals in the main bar and the cobbled courtyard at the rear. Cromwell is said to have celebrated here after his victory at Faringdon. Currently closed, awaiting new tenants, or possibly sale.
