Estate pub built in 1939 for Ind Coope to serve the new Risinghurst Estate. The builder had previously worked on Ampleforth Abbey in York but there is no other connection. The local of C. S. Lewis who lived nearby and was known to drink here with J. R. R. Tolkien. He also brought his wife Joy here. It closed in May 2015. A local group formed a Community Pub Co., got it listed as an ACV and got a lease from Punch Taverns in Nov 2017 to run part of the ground floor as a wet-led, Community Pub. Since Dec 2023 it is no longer a community pub. The new leaseholder holds to community ethos but has added English & Indian food. Indoor space includes areas set as pubic bar and restaurant. There are two Aunt Sally teams and two darts teams During summer has 1 changing cask ale, normally local. During winter may have 2nd cask ales on. As well as food in the evening the pub offers both English and Indian breakfast on Saturdays.
