This Honeycomb Houses pub, part of the group of Brakspear managed pubs, reopened on 12 May 2022 after being closed for a major refurbishment on 6 March 2022. There is a huge new outdoor space, called The Courtyard, which has plantings, a water feature, an outdoor fireplace, relaxed furniture and a retractable roof. Indoors there is a conservatory, a private dining and meeting room, as well as the main bar area. All areas have been fully redecorated during the recent makeover, with bold floral and botanical wallpapers being a consistent theme throughout.
Overnight accommodation is on offer in The Doll's House, a townhouse behind the pub with four boutique bedrooms or The Old Coach House, a five bedroom townhouse next to the pub.
All day dining is available with a high quality classic pub menu on offer, produced from top quality ingredients sourced primarily from the UK.
Previously, this former coaching inn dating from 1779 was last refurbished in March 2013 and included its own microbrewery, Bell Street, at the rear of one of the dining rooms. This brewed some well-loved and renowned Brakspear beers such as Special and Old for selected pubs in its estate. The brewery closed in Spring 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic and has now been removed completely as part of the 2022 refurbishment, with the new kitchen taking its place at the back of the dining room.
