17th-century pub in a Grade II-listed building retaining many original features such as exposed low beams, large fireplaces and internal cellar. The large, fenced garden sits on probable Saxon-age town ramparts.
Reopened on 13 May 2022 having closed temporarily on 22 April 2022 while there was a change of ownership from the Brakspear pub co to Oak Taverns. There was a refurbishment inside and outside.
The house beer (Cross Keys - House Bitter) may be swapped with another local beer. Dark beers are often sold, plus limited edition beers from the Dead Brewers' Society.
May open at 2pm on bank holiday Mondays.
Pop-up food stalls are present at the rear of the pub from Wednesdays to Sundays, the operators offer varying food choices - check their Facebook page for details including timings that may vary from the meal times above.
Has wheelchair access into the pub and the pop-up food area but there are no disabled toilet facilities.
