See more about this pub on CAMRA's national web site

Busy and picturesque village local dating from the 15th century and owned by the local Church and operated as a free house.

The pub has lots of character with plenty of exposed beams and nooks and crannies in the several distinct areas around the bar. There is also a separate room at the rear, which serves as a restaurant extension or a function/meeting room. A real fire awaits inside in the winter months.

The pub is very popular for its food where much of the produce is sourced locally and is all freshly made to order. The extensive menu covers sandwiches/baguettes, pub classics and elevated pub selections, as well as a kids menu and also a full Sunday lunch menu.

There is a sunny garden to the front of the pub for sitting and drinking which leads down to a brook. There is also a large child-friendly garden to the rear, which is suitable for a marquee hosting events for up to 200 guests.

Car parking is available on the common ground opposite.

Information about the nearby Civil War Battle of Chalgrove and Parliamentarian John Hampden (who was mortally wounded at it) is displayed. Mahjong evenings take place on Wednesdays. The village church has fine wall paintings, which can be viewed by borrowing the key from the nearby Post Office.

There is a defibrillator at the primary school, about 200m away.
