This charming 16th century coaching house on the edge of the hamlet of Caulcott, is warm and cosy with a welcoming open fire in the winter. This genuine free house offers three changing ales from both local (Church End, Goff's, Tring, and Vale) and national breweries. Owned by French landlord, Jerome since 2006, the passion he has for food is reflected in a regularly changing menu based on local fresh seasonal produce, a speciality sausage menu, and a traditional croque monsieur at lunchtime. Booking is recommended, especially Thursday steak night, and Sunday lunch. The Bastille Day beer festival weekend is not to be missed. No dogs are permitted inside. The good-sized garden is popular in summer. Car parking is available nearby. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays A Good Beer Guide regular and local CAMRA Pub of the Year 2010, 2016 and 2019.
