A large corner pub that lost its football trade when Oxford United moved has been rejuvenated under Ember Inns ownership. It has been much extended and is arranged over several levels. There are 8 handpumps but some often double up or are vacant. There is an attractive garden to the side. It was originally a private house erected in 1771 and possibly connected to the turnpike on the Oxford-London road. The steep stone entrance steps were to help you get on your horse. It became the Britannia in 1828. Saturday and Sunday serves brunch from 10. Takeaway available. Refurbished September 2024 and now apparently much cosier.
