Built in 1897 to the design of HT Hare, the architect of Oxford’s Town Hall, this pub is a fine building that replaced an earlier pub that had once been the lodgings of the Bursar of Brasenose College. Oxford City Football Club’s stadium was to the rear of the pub until the early 1980s, when it moved to Marston. The pub re-opened in September 2024 with a long lease being taken by Dodo, which operates three other pubs in Oxford and nine overall, all renamed somewhat quirkily. The former White House was previously run by the local Tap Social brewery, and remains a free house with three hand pumps dispensing local and regional beers, and a real cider. The menu is based on Dodo's established burgers, pizzas and chicken wings, and it has a medium-sized garden and large upstairs function room.
